Name: Kristie Cross
Title: Mrs. Chillicothe
Age: 32
Married: 8 years
Children: Drew (15), Noah (7), Olivia (6) and Eli (5)
Occupation: Nanny
Platform:

Kristie and her husband Nathan reside in Chillicothe, MO where she was also born and raised.  They have four children: Drew, Noah, Olivia and Eli.  In her spare time, Kristie enjoys working with PTO, gardening, knitting and running. She is currently training to run her first marathon in the fall.  Since she began running 2 years ago, she has realized that much of this sport is “mental”.  You must work through the mental roadblocks in order to reach physical success.  As this concept became more clear she also realized that this same concept could be used in other areas of her life.  The mental roadblocks are often times much more challenging than the goal itself.  Once this “lightbulb” turned on, she decided that it was time to take control of her future.  She had wanted to go back to college but had  always thought that it was impossible with four children and a hectic lifestyle; she will begin attending classes in the fall of 2008.  She had considered running a marathon but thought that it was too large of a goal; she will run her first marathon in September 2008.  She had considered the Mrs. Missouri Pageant for the past 3 years; she will compete in this pageant in May 2008.  It is time to move past the mental roadblocks that slow us down; let the future begin!

Kristie hopes to be Mrs. Missouri America 2008 and use the opportunity to promote her platform “Internet Safety for Our Children”.  As the mother of 4 children, she knows the worries that parents face everyday.   When she was younger, Kristie recalls a friend who told her of a pact that he had with his grandfather.  The pact went like this:  If the friend was ever approached by a stranger, he was to find the most expensive thing in the store and break it.  The grandfather was certain that this would gain attention from a store clerk  and scare the stranger away from his grandson.  Kristie was so impressed with this pact that she now holds the same pact with her children but she realizes that her worries are much larger than the one that her friend's grandfather held.  This grandfather was concerned that his grandson would be approached by a stranger while out shopping with his parents.  Today's parents have to also be concerned about the safety of their children IN THEIR OWN HOMES.  The internet has opened doors to new worlds for our children and exposes them to different cultures.  With these benefits also come dangers.  It is absolutely essential that we educate both parents and children on the dangers and predators that lurk in this  “internet world”.  Our children have to hold computer skills and know how to navigate the internet in order to be successful in today's world.  As parents, it is our responsibility to teach them how to gain these skills and knowledge while also being safe and protecting themselves.  Kristie would love the opportunity to travel the state during the next year and educate our parents and children on ways to make this all possible!

As Kristie is busy preparing for the upcoming pageant, she sincerely hopes that you will consider attending the event on May 3rd, 2008 in her hometown of Chillicothe, MO.  She promises that you will enjoy the visit to our great city and that you won't be disappointed in the evening's entertainment.
