Mrs. Missouri 2012- Tina York
Cheers! I am Tina York, Mrs. Missouri America 2012! The moment I received my first contestant sash back in 2006, I was ready for the journey! I was the 4th Runner up that year. My next attempt was for the 2010 title and that year I was 3rd Runner up. I told my husband that I kept improving each year as he chuckled that he wasn’t sure he could handle 3 more years. But he did handle 2 as I was 1st Runner up for 2011 and now the title holder. The lesson here is always being persistent in obtaining your goals! You must be accepting of the results because they are completely out of your hands. I am forever grateful that I kept a positive and optimistic view on my journey. I knew I would discover treasures about who I was along the way, and that is far more empowering than a crown.
So who am I? I am 36 years old and I was born and raised in Kansas City, MO. In 1996 I married my husband David, a Paramedic/Firefighter. Together we have 3 children. Hayley, 14; Emily, 12, and Will 9. We are so proud to live in the community of Lee’s Summit, MO. It’s an average sized city, but has a small town heart! I am a Paramedic and have worked in EMS for 16 years! A passion for helping people in need, mixed with being a self proclaimed adrenaline junkie, makes for an EMS career! I have worked on an ambulance, helicopter, in an Emergency Department, as a Supervisor, and now I work for HCA Mid-America. I have come full circle in my career. Now I have an amazing job as the EMS Relations Director over 10 hospitals in our region. If I could dream a job up for myself, it would be this one!
I love sports! Soccer, Football, Basketball, and Baseball are my favorites. I root for my home teams first, regardless of the season, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. I am an avid KU fan and grew up watching KU Basketball (Thank you Grandpa Sam). My extended family resides in Massachusetts, so when they are not playing my KC teams, I will root for my beloved Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. I love a good clam boil and learned from my Grandfather how to make it right! My children can out eat the adults 3 clams to 1 and that makes me proud!
I am excited to have this year to travel across my state and meet people from every walk of life. I want to learn about them and take their wisdoms to create a better me. I can only give what I am given. Life is too short to not fill yourself with others great knowledge of life! I will support many charities along the way, but I will always hold a special place in my soul for Susan G Komen! I walked the 3 Day for A Cure in Chicago 3 weeks before this year’s pageant! 60 miles in 3 days, slept on pavement in a pink tent, couldn’t walk for 2 weeks without excruciating pain, cried, laughed, was humbled, and inspired, and most of all, I will be back to do it all over again! When someone you love has been affected or taken by a disease you will do anything to help another person not die the same way! Breast cancer awareness is simple, EARLY detection SAVES LIVES! Be passionately pink, find your desire to be involved, do something bigger than you! You will be amazed at what it does for your soul!
Thank you to my Director Teresa for always treating her contestants like they have already won! Thank you judges for seeing something special in me and trusting that I will make a difference in people’s lives! Most of all I want to thank husband and my children for their support and encouragement every year along the way. You pushed me to be the woman and Mom I am today and we are about to have the time of our lives this year together! Now let’s go meet Missouri and let them “Show Us” why they are great!
Cheerfully Yours,
Tina
